Genre: Mystery/Thriller
The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . LUCKY PENNY (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #3) . . . Cozy mysteries meet Chick-Lit meet fun and romance all brought in to set pace for this new Miranda Vaughn Mystery set in the beautiful depths of Lake Tahoe. There was so much to enjoy here. Miranda has a new job. That gets entangled or complicated by the addition of a film crew, actors, FBI, bubbly assistance, and a mystery surrounding the Lucky Penny Casino. What was supposed to be a simple accounting/analysis job turns out to be a mystery Miranda cannot resist.

A fully engaged reading that gave me a cozy mystery, intriguing deceit, unapologetic chick-lit, subtle romance, and a run for someone money.  I have loved getting to know Miranda and Jake better over the course of the three books thus far. I have enjoyed the dynamics added by the new added characters that makes for the mystery of the beautiful setting.

The Narrator . . . of LUCKY PENNY (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #3) . . . Terri Schnaubelt has returned as the narrator for the third book in the Miranda Vaughn Mysteries series.  I cannot say it enough that this narrator has this character pinned down and executed perfectly. With each new read I fall more and more for this series. I find her voice makes the difference for me. I love the addition of the characters this time around. It allowed for Terri to add on the quirks of the different range for the secondary characters. There was no mistaking one person for another. It was clear with the distinction in the voice. I love Terri’s performance. Another delicious performance with new and exciting characters that enhance the listening.

BLURB
A year after her acquittal on fraud charges, former financial analyst Miranda Vaughn is finally getting her life back. Not only does she have a chance for romance with her sexy neighbor, FBI Agent Jake Barnes, but she's also got a new job...one that's taking her to a vacation paradise!

Perched above the crystal blue waters of Lake Tahoe, the Whispering Pines Resort & Spa is a local landmark and a popular destination for the rich and famous who are stressed out from being rich and famous. And down on the water’s edge is the Lucky Penny Casino—an abandoned shell of a once-stylish casino. Max Emmerson, the owner of the Whispering Pines Resort, used to own the Lucky Penny, and he wants it back. Miranda’s job is to get Max’s finances in order so he can borrow the money to buy the casino, and make sure nothing jeopardizes his gaming license. Easy, right?

But the nice boring accounting job spirals out of control with the addition of a Hollywood film crew, an underground gambling ring, and Jake going undercover at the resort as a newlywed—with another woman. As Miranda and Jake each dive into their investigations, they can’t deny their growing feelings for each other. But it’s more important than ever that they keep their attraction hidden. Especially since someone at the resort is watching them very closely, and is willing to do just about anything to keep them from uncovering the truth.

Genre: Mystery/Thriller
The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . CHASING THE DOLLAR (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #1) . . . Humor, mystery, and some intrigue. This was a woman’s show. She had to prove that she was innocent even after being acquitted. The proof of her innocent was left in her hands. She had to find the truth. She lost too much. Suspicious clung to her like a thick grey cloud on a rain fogged day. Miranda finds herself on a mission to find out who and why she was framed for something she did not do. Along the way she finds more than just the truth.  She finds a friend, ally, and a bigger problem than the missing $37 million.

Miranda was a character that you could easily be drawn to and the situations she found herself in. This was an up-n-down ride of highs and lows in her adventures to find the truth. Accusations and bullet flew through this one. The trips to one place or another did not stop her pursuer. She had to find out who and why. Along the way, she never expected or counted on the FBI. Even with Jakes working the case his own way they seem to find themselves working together a lot. Much happens in the process of getting answer. There are those that don’t want those answers to be found.

The Narrator . . . of CHASING THE DOLLAR (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #1) . . . Terri Schnaubelt had me drawn in to the world of Miranda Vaughn with her cadence that put me at ease. I loved the flow she provided with the various notes in her voice pitch and tone. I found the quality of the audio was smooth and professional. The timing was just what I needed.

The Book Junkie Reads . . . Review of . . . DROPPING THE DIME (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #2) . . . More humor, mystery, some intrigue, and a bit of romance on the side. This time the show was not all one woman, but you still got a very big dose of Miranda. I enjoyed having more of Jake. There antics at the resort that were just what was needed to make this a little fun and play. The mystery around the embezzled funds just grew into much more than it started out being. The simple investigation take Miranda on another wild adventure. This time the ride was a bit less hazardous to one safety and health. I guess that would depend on how you look at things. The action was not as consuming as in the first one, but for a cozy mystery I do like it with a bit less action more who, what, why, how. Miranda worked to get her mystery solved and the bad people put in their place. This was a good read for me.
The Narrator . . . of DROPPING THE DIME (Miranda Vaughn Mysteries, #2) . . . Terri Schnaubelt had returned and gave me another good read that gave me more of reason to fall a bit more in love with Miranda and the mysteries she kept stumbling into. Terri made the cadence simple and steady. The ease of things allowed for the flow from scene to scene to be seamless. As with the first audio in this series, I found the quality smooth and professional. The timing was just what was needed to carry this second installment over.

Author Info
USA Today best-selling author Ellie Ashe has always been drawn to jobs where she can tell stories—journalist, lawyer, and now writer. Writing quirky romantic mysteries is how she gets the "happily ever after" that so often is lacking in her day job.

When not writing, you can find her with her nose in a good book, watching far too much TV, or trying out new recipes on unsuspecting friends and family. She lives in Northern California with her husband and three cats, all of whom worry when she starts browsing the puppy listings on petfinder.com.

MY INTERVIEW WITH ELLIE ASHE
How would you describe your style of writing to someone that has never read your work?
Fun and funny mysteries with a dash of romance.

What are some of your writing/publishing goals for this year?
I am working on Running the Numbers, Miranda Vaughn Mysteries #4, and I think it will be released later this year. And I always have other projects in various stages that I want to get back to.

Do you feel that writing is an ingrained process or just something that flows naturally for you?
I can’t imagine not writing stories, so in that way, it feels like a very natural process. I don't really understand people who don’t dream up fictional characters and plots and then spend time trying to express it just the right way. But the drive to tell a story might be natural, the craft of telling a story is very much learned. And I love learning how to improve my writing, whether that’s through podcasts, classes, or books, or just by reading authors whose work I admire.

Do you have a character that you have been working on for a long time that still isn't quite ready, but fills you with excitement to work on the story?
Yes, I do! Her name is Autumn and she makes the WORST decisions. So of course, I love her. I’m still not sure what will come of her story, but I always enjoy spending time with her.

Can you share you next creative project(s)? If yes, can you give a few details?
Well, the one I’m writing right now is the latest Miranda Vaughn mystery, and I am having so much fun hanging out with Miranda and company again. I wanted to get back to the action and adventure of Chasing the Dollar.
Here’s a tiny taste :
This was familiar territory for me--trouble. A foreign country where I didn't speak the language. Unknown menacing forces against me. Danger at every turn. But this time, Jake wasn't going to rescue me.
This time, Jake was the one who needed rescuing.
